ME, ME, ME, I, I, I

WARNING - LONG POST
Finally, a new discussion topic! Last week my SIL showed me this comedy clip which totally is me in a nutshell!!! Don't spoil the fun & click on the link before you read on:

Me Monster

If you know me, you know that I'm notorious for trying to one-up stories. In fact, we went to dinner last Saturday with the Bell Photo clan (late Christmas party) & I remember telling myself during the day to not talk so much about me & just BE QUIET!!! I'll even catch myself in the middle of a story sometimes & think "you need to shut up now". But, you can't do that mid-story. So, I'll trudge on.

So, this post is all about Me, Me, Me, I, I, I! Here's some of my accomplishments. OK- basically all of them because my list is small & you'll notice as I've stretched some of this to make them sound a little cooler. (You know you all do it on resumes & bios.) Besides, this is all about ME!!

**I grew up being in the Easter Pageant. My family will be in it again this year for the 2nd year as a family. I wasn't in it for the previous 6/7 years. So, long story short this year will be my 23rd year. I've had the following parts: little girl that gives Jesus a flower, angel dancer, accuser of Peter, 10 virgin dancer, dancer with Mary Magdelene (I was never cool enough to actually be Mary Magdelene, but that was still my highlight!) & the mother of the dead girl. Which Kylie gets to be the dead girl this year, so watch for her! (My Dad played the savior for 11 years.)

**I danced all through High School (surprise, surprise) & have won many awards.

**I was 1994 Mesa Cinderella Teen (don't laugh - totally not something I should mention, but as I said - I gotta make it sound cool)

**I love to travel & I've been lucky enough to go to the following countries: US (duh!), Mexico, Brazil, Argentina & Australia - OH! And Hawaii counts, too if you're my Grandma!

**I have done design work for Xyron (a scrapbooking tools company) & was even recently published in an advertisement for them in the Hobby Lobby magazine.

**I am a mom of two GORGEOUS girls! Seriously, my girls are cute - I love them! (Aren't you allowed to be that confident when it comes to your kids? Oh well if you're not, because mine are cute!)

Well, that's all for my short list of accomplishments. Now it's your turn to talk about you! Let's hear some of your accomlishments - don't be shy. You know you want to be the next "Me Monster"! Besides with everything I wrote I could think of at least one, if not more of you, that could easily one-up me! So, let's hear them...

PRES. HINCKLEY

June 23, 1910 - January 27, 2008

What a life he has lead in his 97 years! He's truly an inpirational man to all denominations. Here's some of his accomplishments that I've taken from an article from http://www.lds.org/:

"In 1999 — 169 years after the Church was organized by its founder, Joseph Smith — the Church had 56 operating temples. Three years later that number had doubled, largely because of a smaller, highly practical temple architectural plan that delivered these sacred buildings to Church members in far-flung parts of the world. Many more Church members can now experience the sacred ceremonies that occur only in temples, including marriages for eternity and the sealing of families in eternal units.

President Hinckley was the most traveled president in the Church’s history. His duties took him around the world many times to meet with Latter-day Saints in more than 60 countries. He was the first Church president to travel to Spain, where in 1996 he broke ground for a temple in Madrid; and to the African nations of Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Cape Verde, where he met with thousands of Latter-day Saints in 1998. In 2005, he traveled nearly 25,000 miles on a seven-nation, nine-day tour to Russia, South Korea, China, Taiwan, India, Kenya, and Nigeria.

President Hinckley received a number of educational honors, including the Distinguished Citizen Award from Southern Utah University; the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Utah; and honorary doctorates from Westminster College, Utah State University, University of Utah, Brigham Young University, Southern Utah University, Utah Valley State College and Salt Lake Community College. The Gordon B. Hinckley Endowment for British Studies, a program focused on the arts, literature and history of the United Kingdom, was established at the University of Utah.

President Hinckley was awarded the Silver Buffalo Award by the Boy Scouts of America; was honored by the National Conference for Community and Justice (formerly the National Conference of Christians and Jews) for his contributions to tolerance and understanding in the world; and received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. In 2004, President Hinckley was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush in the White House. "

Truly amazing!! His wonderful presence & not to mention his great sense of humor will be greatly missed. Isn't it wonderful as members to know that we will be able to see & hear from him again. I'm sure his work & service is far from over. But, I'm sure he's happy to see his lovely wife again. As much as this phrase still pains me after my friends passing:

"God be with you 'till we meet again..."

REMEMBERING

Ok - so I've had this idea for along time & I'm now inspired to put it in motion. I want to have random thoughts or questions about once a week that require EVERYONE'S participation! Which means that if you are reading this I would love to hear your response or story in response to this...

So, here's the first one & the reason I'm finally doing this & something everyone has some story about...

I was in the car picking up my daughter & niece from preschool when I heard a song that took me back. I've found a better one for the purpose of this post ...

What would be your first memory when you hear this song? For me, this will yet again prove what a geek I am, but I always think of the 14 year old church dances. Running to the bathroom with my friends whenever a slow song would start. Knowing that the "cool" guys would not ask us & we'd only get asked by the weird ones! Which now when I think back to the "cool" guys they were actually quite geeky themselves. But, they were from Mt. View, so they were cool. Or remembering the strange way we used to dance back then - I wish their was some way to describe the bouncing around we used to do. I remember making plans to go with Sarah every Saturday night & how much fun we would have no matter what was happening around us.

But, here's my best story for this: I remember being asked by one of those "weird" guys to dance. (I was a terrified girl back then when it came to boys whether they were weird or cool.) While dancing he started to quiz me & here are some of the questions I was asked:

*What are your goals in life?
*What would you like to be when you grow up?
*How many kids would you like to have?
*Do you read your scriptures?
*Do you say your prayers?

WHAT THE??!!! Who does that? It was very strange in the least! Anyway, that's my thought down memory road. Now I want to hear your best or strangest dance story.

OH WAIT!! I so have another one that includes PROM this time. Which most of you know this one already, but just for kicks I'm reitterating it. (If your one of my sisters you will know this story well.) If you know this person - or if by some reason you are this person I apologize ahead of time for the fun we've had in my family at your expense!! But, here it is...

When I was a Junior in High School I was asked to PROM. Not even my own schools PROM, but another schools. It was someone I didn't even know. I had only met him once. (Which was a set up meeting at the temple grounds to see if I was worthy enough to go to prom with him. I guess I passed the initial test.) Anyway, during our day activity we went to Fountain Hills to watch the water & eat lunch. He kept trying to hold my hand & it grossed me out so I always found a way around it. Then, when we got back in the car to leave he turned to me to say something & I about hurled. He was literally dripping with sweat down his face. (Later I heard that he was on some medication that made him sweat a lot. So, I felt bad for laughing at this, but still....) He was a football star at his school so he was a pretty large, buff guy. So, he has now been given the name "NO NECK NIAGARA FALLS".

CHRISTMAS

For Christmas this year my Dad & Mignon rented a large cabin in Flagstaff for all of us to be together at. It was so much fun! Look at this good looking crew sporting their Balance Landscaping shirts on Christmas. (Luke owns a landscaping business & the whole family loves to wear their shirts whenever we can.) It was fun to be in the snow - even though it was cold & we're not the best prepared for that. My girls showed up in their vans & we quickly learned that the wetness of snow soaks right through them. Silly Arizona kids! We owe a HUGE thank you to Mimi & Papa for a fun trip!! They pulled off another fun-filled cabin adventure for everyone.
After the cabin we headed up to the St, George area to visit my Mom & Alan. It was so cold up their as well. They live in the mountains about 20 minutes outside of St. George. It was fun to relax in their home. Erik & Kylie played hours & hours of Guitar Hero 3 (which Kylie got from Santa Claus - yes, that's all she asked for) on my mom's big screen. Which wasn't the greatest now that were home because now they hate playing it on our small TV.
Overall it was a fun vacation & we're dreading the beginning of our normal life routine next week. The stress begins in full force on Sunday! But, it was a nice break. We truly are blessed for all that we have & for all of our family. Some may find our family strange, but I love everyone! There's definitely never a dull moment & you most definitely won't leave a gathering without your stomache hurting from laughter. (Especially if Luke's around!) I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!
